Welcome to House by the River
House by the River is a traditional guesthouse built in 1968, located inside Plitvice Lakes National Park, just 800 metres from the Great Waterfall. The house keeps its authentic exterior charm, while the interior has been fully renovated and furnished with warmth and care.
The house stands right above the Plitvica stream, so you will hear the gentle sound of water even at night. We offer two apartments and two rooms suitable for couples, families and small groups, with free parking in front of the house, shared terraces and a private terrace for one apartment.
A quiet house in the heart of nature
Rooms and apartments are spacious, exceptionally clean and tastefully furnished, with comfortable beds, quality linens and modern bathrooms. Every unit has heating or air conditioning, a flat-screen TV with streaming services, a tea and coffee maker, a wardrobe and free Wi-Fi. Selected apartments and the studio add extra space, a kitchen and a private outdoor corner, so the house suits couples, families and small groups equally well.
Breakfast on the terrace
Breakfast is freshly prepared, often with seasonal produce and ingredients from our own garden, and served on the terrace or in the garden when the weather allows. With coffee, greenery and birdsong the day begins slowly, and special dietary preferences are accommodated whenever possible.
Plitvice Lakes at your doorstep
We are close to the former Entrance 3, where beautiful viewpoints open over the Lower Lakes. Entrance 1 is about 2.9 km away, Entrance 2 about 3.7 km, and the Great Waterfall about 1.9 km. We are happy to suggest trails, hidden viewpoints and the best time to walk the park, as well as cycling, hiking and winter skiing nearby.

Rooms are a great size and are zoned into living, eating and sleeping, with an ensuite off the sleeping area. The host was fantastic, giving us perfect directions of the park and recommending places to eat in the evening.
